In 2014 consumers were even more capable of discovering memorable new products. Social media and in particular Facebook were instrumental in propelling this. According to the Most Memorable New Product Launch survey Facebook ranks just behind TV commercials as the most popular way consumers discover new products.
Joan Schneider, CEO of Schneider Associates, believes consumers are learning about products more and more through digital media. She stated, “We’ve seen traditional media decline and social media become more mainstream…. To be successful in reaching emerging, younger generations, integrated marketing campaigns with both social and digital media are required to fully engage and motivate the target audience.”
A wide range of products made the cut from technology to food. Here were the top ten:
10. Swiffer Sweep and Trap
This dust fighting clean green machine made it’s name by being highly maneuverable and efficient.
9. Colgate Optic White Toothbrush and Whitening Pen
Toothbrush commercials are typically cringe worthy. Somehow Colgate captured viewers attention long enough for them to realise it was a neat product.
8. Cheerios Protein Cereal
Cherios marketer this saying it’s “protein your whole family will love.” Apparently they were quite right!
7. (tie) Samsung 78-Inch UHD and TV Curved Sets
Consumers seem to value an $8000 TV set which curves as much as…
7. (tie) Taco Bell’s A.M. Crunchwrap
A cheap crunchy taco!
6. (tie) Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power Razor with Flexball Technology
An advanced razor was a well contested product on social media. Perhaps this is part of what made it memorable.
6. (tie) Subway’s Flatizza
This is another product which may only be memorable because it was contested. Maybe Subway should just stick to pizza style subs.
5. Taco Bell’s Waffle Taco
I think the picture says it all!
4. Amazon Fire Phone
A 3D enabled smart phone? Hard to forget!
3. PlayStation 4
There is no explanation needed for why a new playstation (or any gaming console!) makes the list for most memorable products.
2. XBox One
It appears that, in at least one respect, th XBox has overtaken the Playstation.
And finally…
1. iPhone 6 Plus
No shocker there really. In a world without TV commercials and Social Media (#bendgate) could a large, bendy phone make it so big? You decide.
